Kinosaki Onsen Sensui
城崎温泉 泉翠

Why not spend time face to face with someone special, book in hand? The only sounds are pages turning and water flowing. Standing on a quiet lane in Kinosaki Onsen, Sensui is a 13-room inn that reopened in 2019 after a renovation designed by architect Yasushi Horibe. Its defining feature is a library built around the theme of facing each other. Some 200 titles chosen by a book director, from photo books to poetry and picture books, line the shelves, and you can take a volume you would not normally pick up back to your room and read it at leisure. All three baths in the inn are for private use. Tou no Yu, made of Shigaraki ceramic, and the cypress-scented Hinoki no Yu need no reservation and are free to use as often as you like whenever they are free. Mushi no Yu, which has a sauna, is reserved in 90-minute sessions: a cypress-lined sauna, a 17°C cold plunge bath and outdoor cool-down, all for just the two of you. When the mood takes you, head out in your yukata for public bathhouse hopping. Dinner is a leisurely kaiseki course dinner of seasonal Tajima produce at the in-house restaurant.
