Kusatsu Onsen Naraya

草津温泉 奈良屋

# Historic ryokan founded in 1877

Founded in 1877, this inn draws water from the Shirahata source, said to be the oldest in Kusatsu, letting it flow in along the natural slope of the land. The hot spring water, which emerges at over 50 degrees Celsius, is left to rest in tanks overnight and gently tempered by craftsmen known as yumori before it is poured into the baths. Sink into that soft water together in the private open-air bath (kashikiri), which comes with its own tatami sitting room, and feel the warmth of a craft passed down for nearly 150 years slowly soak into your skin.
